It is not very often that I get my personal revelation of the last year repeated verbatim from the Salt Lake Conference Center’s pulpit, but President Uchtdorf’s talk from the Relief Society broadcast did just that.
This broadcast happens a week before the October conference and is specifically for women. Basing his talk on the five petals of the forget-me-not, President Uchtdorf of the First Presidency said to remember five things: be patient with yourself, wisely pick your sacrifices, do not miss happiness waiting for the golden ticket, do not forget the why of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and never forget that God loves you.
Having my internal revelation reconfirmed externally was incredibly powerful. I felt great joy thinking of the changes God has worked in me. Many of these have been come from being more patient with myself; I have found within myself a coaxing voice that can love the part of me feeling sad, lonely, frustrated, or angry and can gently coax me towards choosing healthy actions. I have also learned to recognize the feeling that I am sacrificing more than is really healthy for myself, saying no, and stopping to take care of myself. Ironically, this has led me to be able to give and love more truly. Both of these things have helped me find more happiness in the moment. I feel more often an abundant, overflowing gratitude. This is made possible by the why of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the fact that the Atonement makes our salvation possible, allows us to learn from our mistakes, and leads us towards light and change. Our Heavenly Father made this path possible because he loves us so much. President Uchtdorf said, “You are known and remembered by the most majestic, powerful, and glorious Being in the universe! You are loved by the King of infinite space and everlasting time! He who created and knows the stars knows you and your name—you are the daughters [and sons] of His kingdom.”
I know God will speak to you, too, and tell you how you can have increased light in your life.
